The Canadian Home Economics Association and Ruth
Binnie Scholarship funds were transferred to the Canadian Federation of
University Women (CFUW) Charitable Trust in December 2003. The scholarships
which will now be administered through the CFUW Charitable Trust, will retain
their names and be available to any potential candidate who wishes to study in
the field of home economics.
The Ruth Binnie Scholarship Fund shall continue to be known by that name. Ruth
Binnie Scholarships will be awarded out of the income earned by the fund to
persons who are studying to obtain a postgraduate degree in education with a
focus on one or more aspects of the field of home economics, as described
below.
The remainder of the assets of the Scholarship Fund, will be known as the
"CHEA-ACEF Scholarship Fund". CHEA-ACEF Scholarships will be awarded
out of the income earned by the fund to persons who are studying to obtain a
postgraduate degree in one or more aspects of the field home economics, as
described below:
For the purpose of determining the qualifications of applicants for such
scholarships, the term "home economics" will be interpreted as a
field of study that aims to promote quality home and family life and includes
human development and relationships, financial and resource management,
consumerism, food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, housing and shelter,
and aesthetics.
Home Economists, students and any other
interested individuals will be able to access information on the scholarships
through the CFUW Web site.
